Pretty Pugs!

22nd March 2016 /Posted byAshley Rossiter / 2957

At Dogissimo, we are all about looking our best, and grooming is paramount in not just making sure our dogs look and smell great, but keeping them healthy too.

Here are our top tips for grooming your pug.

  • Although Pugs are short coated, brushing them is a lot more important than you realise: You just need the right brush! A rubber brush can be bought in all good pet stores and you will be amazed at they difference they make! If you don’t have a rubber brush, stroking your pug firmly with a pair of rubber gloves on works well too.

  • Clean your pugs face folds and ears frequently! Infections are common as the folds in your dogs face harbour dead skin, bacteria, hair, saliva, food and whatever else your pooch may have stuck his face in! Gently wipe them clean with a sensitive babywipe, thin washcloth or specialist dog wipes.

  • Bathing your pug every 6-8 weeks is ideal to keep them smelling fresh, looking clean and fuzz free. It is advised to take your dog to a professional groomer, as they will check your dog’s overall health as well. However, if you are bathing at home, always make sure you are using a good quality dog shampoo as human shampoo is very drying and can cause skin irritation!

  • Follow up with conditioner to keep your dog’s coat looking shiny and feeling smooth. The conditioner will also help with removing excess shedding hair that you couldn’t get out before the bath. Rinse thoroughly and dry thoroughly with a towel and if your pug will let you, then try a hairdryer on a cool setting so that your pug doesn’t overheat!

  • Remember, nail clipping, checking anal glands and overall health are very important to your pugs well-being, but a trip to a professional groomer will do all, if you’re not confident!
